Behold what condescending love
Jesus on earth displays:
To babes and sucklings he extends
The riches of his grace.
The parents' hearts, with transport filled,
Give up their babes to him;
He clasps them in his tender arms,
Though born in guilt and sin.
See how the Saviour looks around,
With smiles upon his face,
And says his kingdom is of such,
By free and sovereign grace.
“Forbid them not,” is his command;
Then why should we resist?
O let your babes be now baptised ;
Heaven will of such consist.
With flowing tears and thankful hearts
We bring them here to thee;
Receive them, Lord, into thine arms—
Thine may they ever be.
