All outward means till Christ appears
Do ineffectual prove;
However much the sinner fears
He never learns to love.
But let the most obdurate feel
The beams of heavenly grace,
Though hard as ice, or rocks, or steel,
His heart dissolves apace.
He sees the blood which Jesus spilt
To save his soul from woe;
And hatred, unbelief, and guilt
All melt away like snow.
O God thy mercy we entreat,
Now may thy power be felt;
And great thy Spirit’s light and heat
Each frozen heart to melt.
