We to this place are come to show,
What we to boundless mercy owe;
The Saviour’s footsteps to explore,
And tread the path he trod before.
Our whole dependance is alone
On what the Lord himself has done,
Unless to his dear cross we fly,
In vain to rites do we apply.
Descend, celestial Spirit, down,
Vouchsafe this ordinance to crown;
And let it, Lord, from hence appear,
That we thy sons and daughters are.
