He leads us on
Through childhood’s
wondering years,
Past all our dreamland hopes,
and doubts, and fears;
Draws gently back life’s curtain,
as we gaze
With growing marvel
at His ordered ways;
Till childhood’s days are done
‘Tis He that leads us on.
He leads us on
By paths we do not know;
Upwards He leads us,
though our steps be slow;
Though oft we faint
and falter on the way,
Though storms and darkness
oft obscure the day,
Yet, when the clouds are gone,
We know He leads us on.
He leads us on;
Still red the watch-fires glow
Beside the paths
His feet trod long ago;
He gives for guidance,
through life’s tangled maze,
The spacious visions seen
in earlier days.
We know His will is done,
For still He leads us on.
